Trump calls Florida vote count a \disgrace\ as recount looms in Senate race

Florida and Georgia prepare for recounts amid claims of irregularities

Read more The Florida candidates for Senate – current governor Rick Scott, a Republican, and Democrat Bill Nelson – were separated by just 15,000 votes on Friday morning, which could lead to a recount.

The governors elections in Florida and Georgia were almost as close, raising the possibility of a further recount and a possible runoff election respectively.

On Tuesday night, the Gillum for Governor campaign operated with the best information available about the number of outstanding ballots left to count. Since that time, it has become clear there are many more uncounted ballots than was originally reported, the campaign said. We are committed to ensuring every single vote in Florida is counted.

Floridas Senate race was thrown into chaos on Thursday night when Scott, without providing evidence, accused unethical liberals of attempting to steal this election.

Donald Trump weighed in in support of Scott on Friday, saying he would send lawyers to Florida to expose unspecified fraud and, apparently jokingly, suggested Russia may be to blame.

In a press conference at the governors mansion Scott said he had filed two lawsuits against election supervisors in the traditionally Democratic-leaning Broward county and Palm Beach. Scott suggested election supervisors there may have been trying to inflate the Democratic vote.

Trump blasts Florida Democratic officials who are finding votes out of nowhere

Nelsons campaign said Scotts impromptu investigation was politically motivated. Scott is just 0.2% in front of Nelson in the Senate race – 15,071 votes ahead out of more than 8.1m cast.

Scott said at a news conference on Thursday night that he was asking the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate elections offices in the Democratic strongholds of Palm Beach and Broward counties, questioning whether they were trying to inflate the Democratic vote.

Nelsons campaign has hired lawyer Marc Elias, who has previously worked for Hillary Clinton and former US senator Al Franken, to investigate whether all votes have been counted in Florida.

Broward County Ballot Design May Have Violated Guidelines, Resulting in Odd Pattern of Senate Votes

Nelsons campaign filed its own lawsuit to ask a federal judge to extend Saturdays deadline for county supervisors to submit their tallies to the state, demanding extra time for every vote to be counted.

Elias has suggested there may have been an error in counting some votes in Broward county and believes the gap between Scott and Nelson will continue to narrow.

President Donald Trump lashed out at a Democratic Florida election official on Friday, suggesting that dishonesty could play a role in changing the result of the states U.S Senate election, which Republican Gov. Rick Scott won by a narrow margin.

As soon as Democrats sent their best Election stealing lawyer, Marc Elias, to Broward County they miraculously started finding Democrat votes. Dont worry, Florida – I am sending much better lawyers to expose the FRAUD! the president tweeted.

You mean they are just now finding votes in Florida and Georgia – but the Election was on Tuesday? Lets blame the Russians and demand an immediate apology from President Putin!

Trump tweeted on his way to France about that race and one in neighboring Georgia, snarking about Democrats efforts to change unfavorable results.

As Scott announced his lawsuits, questions began to be asked about ballot papers which did not clearly indicate how to vote in the Senate election.

Mueller was not confirmed by the Senate and there is no requirement that he must be. He is a so-called inferior officer, reporting until this week to deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The attorney general, by contrast, is a principal officer who reports only to Trump. That is the driver behind arguments that Trumps appointment of Matthew Whitaker as acting AG without Senate confirmation violates the Constitution.

CNN reported that nearly 25,000 voters in Broward county had cast a vote for governor but not for one of the Senate candidates – a discrepancy that CNN said was not matched in other counties.

Given that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has been confirmed by the Senate and is next in the line of succession established by law, I see no legitimate reason for you to have taken the unprecedented step of naming Mr. Whitaker instead, he wrote. As an unconfirmed political appointee, Mr. Whitaker has not been subject to the scrutiny that the Constitution requires.

Photos shared on Twitter showed that on the ballot papers in Broward county the section where voters could opt for Scott or Nelson was located in the bottom left of the ballot, beneath instructions on how to vote. In other counties the section for Scott and Nelson was presented more prominently at the top of the ballot. Broward county leans heavily Democratic, meaning the different ballots could have resulted in fewer votes for Nelson.

Its not necessary. The Mueller investigation is not under threat. The president said repeatedly that hes not going to dismiss the Mueller investigation. Hes said repeatedly its going to be allowed to finish. That also happens to be my view, McConnell told reporters in Kentucky, the Hill reported.

Marco Rubio: These Private Cars Transporting Ballots in Florida Sure are Suspicious

Election officials in Broward and Palm Beach, two of Floridas most heavily populated counties, have insisted they were held up by a large number of early and mail-in ballots, with the Broward election supervisors website reporting Friday that only a number of early voting returns were still outstanding.

We are glad that she won. She made us proud as refugees and Somalis. This shows that even if you are a refugee, you can still succeed. We pray for her and hope she will support the refugees. She must know that we are here in Dadaab, said Abdullahi Osman Haji Adam, who knew her back then.

Read more Scotts lawsuits came as Andrew Gillum, the Democratic candidate for Florida governor, said he was preparing for a recount in the state and had hired attorney Barry Richard, who represented George Bush in the 2000 recount. Gillum conceded to his opponent, Ron DeSantis, on Tuesday, but as more votes have been counted the race has narrowed. Gillum was 0.4% behind DeSantis on Friday morning, with 99.98% of the vote counted.

Automatic statewide recounts in the senate and governors races are likely to be triggered at lunchtime Saturday, when unofficial returns from Floridas 67 counties must be delivered to secretary of state Ken Detzner.

Rubio also cannot explain what the alternative would be to counting the ballots in Broward, if he — in stark contrast to those mischevious Democrats — does want to “make sure every vote is counted.” He is all but saying the election will only be legitimate if the tally is stopped right now and Republicans are declared the winners, no matter how many peoples votes are not counted. Which, incidentally, would be illegal, since state law makes clear that any election where the results are within 0.5 percent must have a recount.

Following the recounts, Floridas elections canvassing committee meets on 20 November to make all the results official.

On Tuesday night, the Gillum for Governor campaign operated with the best information available about the number of outstanding ballots left to count. Since that time, it has become clear there are many more uncounted ballots than was originally reported, Gillums campaign said. We are committed to ensuring every single vote in Florida is counted.

Trump on Florida: Finding votes out of nowhere

In a tweet late Thursday, Gillum did not withdraw the concession, but hit back at Scotts accusation that leftwing activists were at work. Counting votes isnt partisan – its democracy, he wrote.

Kemp leads Abrams with 50.3% of the vote and has claimed victory, but Abrams, who is bidding to become the first female black governor in the US, has yet to concede, saying that some votes have not yet been counted.

Meanwhile, in Arizonas Senate race, Democrat Kyrsten Sinema took a minuscule lead of about 9,000 out of 1.9 million votes counted after trailing since Tuesday. The race remained too close to call with at least 400,000 ballots still uncounted.

Florida Governor and Senate elect Rick Scott, unleashed lawsuits against Broward County and Palm Beach County while accusing Democrats of trying to steal the election.

Video: Senator Bill Nelson says he wants a recount

Both the senate seat Scott thought was his on Tuesday night, and the Governors spot that looked all but won by Republican Ron DeSantis are both now within the margin of error for a recount.

Scott believed he won over the Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson, however, during a press conference Thursday night, after his Senate campaign sued Broward County and Palm Beach County elections officials to turn over records regarding how ballots are being counted, Scott said: The people of Florida deserve fairness and transparency, and the supervisors are failing to give it to us.

The lawsuit was filed about the same time Scott ordered state law enforcement officials to investigate the Broward and Palm Beach voting operation.

A spokesperson for Nelson bristled at Scotts legal maneuvering, telling CNN The goal here is to see that all the votes in Florida are counted and counted accurately. Rick Scotts action appears to be politically motivated and borne out of desperation.
