The doting grandfather: Heartwarming picture shows Charles playing with young Prince Louis

Proudly laughing at his new grandson, Prince Louis, this is the image that shatters the belief Prince Charles is anything but a doting grandparent.

The never seen before photograph was featured last night in a fascinating BBC documentary marking the heir to the thrones 70th birthday next week.

What we learnt from Las Vegas was that one form of architecture could be a decorated shed, and we certainly got that with the National Gallery extension. Whether the decoration is appropriate or not is a question, in my opinion not.But the internal planning is neither classical nor modern, but one of the least controlled interior spaces I know by so-called Starchitects.Certainly no lesson had been learnt from either Aalto or Scharoun about how to plan large public buildings. It does not help to say that the public say the prefer traditional architecture “whatever that means”. For example on Open City weekend, all the best modern buildings have long queues or are booked out. Show people fine modern buildings, and they may prefer them.Prince Charles is less in touch with public perception of architecture than the opinions of his cronies and those who hang on in the hopes of picking up a nice project by the back door.

Taken in September in the gardens at Clarence House, the princes official London residence, it shows the Duchess of Cambridge, wearing a spotted blue dress, holding up little Louis, who was born in April, to see his grandfather.

You might recognise the Alessandra Rich dress that the Duchess of Cambridge is wearing in this adorable family photo of her holding little Prince Louis, and it's not because Kate has been recycling her outfits again.

Make no mistake, the Royal family (or The Firm as they call themselves) have an army of well-paid advisors and courtiers who realise a prime time television show is a terrific PR opportunity to promote their brand.

Meghan Markle wedding: What did Prince Charles VOW to do ahead of sons royal wedding?

Suits star Abigail Spencer wore this very same style to attend the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding back in May this year, and we heard a lot of people say it was their favourite dress of the day (apart from Meghan's of course!).

A film crew has followed the Prince for a year, managing to coax a few nuggets from the testy Royal, including the fact he doesnt plan to interfere so much when he finally ascends to the throne. Really?

We love the vintage-inspired contrast collar and cuffs on this dress, which is typical of the Alessandra Rich atheistic. Polka dots are a huge trend right now, and you really can't go wrong with classic navy and white, right? Oh we can't forget to mention quite how flattering the pleated skirt is.

William added: “There are so many things I admire about my father – his work ethic, his passions, but personally I want to be my own man and take my own style, my own passions and my own interest my way, and do things slightly differently.

The little prince, who would have been aged around five months at the time, reaches out and grabs his grandfathers hands with his fingers, leaving Charles chuckling with delight.

A second unseen image shows the Prince playing with the Duchess of Cornwalls grandchildren in a garden, swinging around a little girl thought to be Lola Parker Bowles, daughter of Camillas son, Tom.

Charles acknowledged in a BBC documentary marking his 70th birthday on Wednesday that he would not be able to do the same things Ive done as heir and as monarch would have to operate within constitutional parameters. The idea that he would continue making interventions was nonsense, he said.

The prince, dressed in a beige suit, open-necked shirt and tasseled loafers, appears to be having as much fun as the giggling youngster.

The Prince of Wales will continue to fight behind closed doors on the issues he feels strongly about, even if it means clashes with the prime minister, according to his biographer.

The Prince of Wales has promised not to meddle as sovereign but he should take the chance to reform the monarchy

The prediction comes after the prince said that he would no longer speak out on such subjects once he is king, declaring: Im not that stupid.

Prince Louis and Prince Charles bond as proud Kate Middleton looks on in adorable new photo

God don butter my bread said the Prince of Wales, making as much sense as usual. He was speaking on Wednesday in Nigeria and the translation from the Pidgin is simply God has blessed me. Next week, Prince Charles turns 70 still waiting to inherit the role for which his whole life has been a prelude. It has been an absurd way to treat a thoughtful man whose life has been less blessed than it looks.

It has been, in some ways, a gilded one. No heart can bleed too long for someone cocooned in castles and palaces. Yet Charless mother has turned monarchy into a baroque prison. The Queen has done, as every pundit with nothing to say always says, a great job. She…
