Winter weekend Bolton: Families claim event was like a car boot sale | Daily Star

Two-hour queues and a plastic ice rink at the Bolton Arena in Greater Manchester left people complaining that the event was a rip-off.

However, families who attended the event at Bolton Arena have complained to The Bolton News that it was “more like a car boot sale” and accused the organisers of “false advertising”.

FESTIVE revellers claimed a `Winter Weekend of skating, Santa and a Christmas market left them feeling grotto.

They gave the £5-a-head two-day event a frosty reception after the ice rink turned out to be white plastic tiles which staff sprayed with soapy water in a bid to make slippy.

Visitors expecting to find stalls selling mince pies and bratwurst were instead offered bizarre items such as car registration plates and acne cream.

Mum Claire Cassidy, 23, who went to the event at the Bolton Arena on Saturday with her two-year-old son and friends, said: “There was no Christmas atmosphere, no trees, no music.

“The advert showed a big ice rink and it turned out to be just plastic tiles and a guy putting down soap.

“It was crammed. It was an hour queuing for the globe and about two hours queuing for Santas Grotto.

Sarah Halliday branded it `the most overhyped mis-sold event Ive ever had the displeasure of attending.

Another visitor tweeted: “We went to Bolton Winter Wonderland yesterday and it was a complete joke!

“Inside was like a jumble sale and the ice skating was a disgrace and nothing like advertised! I want to claim my money back.”

Jeff Chadburn wrote on Facebook: “Did anyone see the `magical winter lane highlighted on the map?

“Bar the grotto, which we didnt see, theres nothing in the theme of Christmas or winter at all!

“This event does not live up to the title winter wonderland at all – car boot sale at best.

Harry Houghton branded it a “disaster” and moaned he could not even find any organisers to complain to.”

Event manager Martin Robinson acknowledged there had been queuing issues on Saturday but said measures were introduced to improve matters.

“We are trying to bring the local community and businesses together and it is so cheap for what you are getting.

“We have not advertised this as a Christmas event. It is a Winter Weekend with a festive feel.”

Megan Barton-Hanson has come under fire after sharing a picture of her bare bum during cellulite treatment.
