The devastated family of a teenager found dead in her flat over Easter have spoken of their grief after an 18-year-old appeared in court charged with her murder.
Joseph Trevor, of Stoke-on-Trent, is accused of killing football coach Megan Newton, also 18, after she was found dead at a property in Stoke on Saturday afternoon.
Soon after Trevor appeared in court this morning, relatives of Ms Newton paid an emotional tribute to a beautiful young woman who had everything to live for.
They revealed how Ms Newton, a big Stoke City fan, loved working with children and was studying sports at college while holding three jobs down at the same time.
In a statement, her family added: We just cant believe whats happened. Our hearts are broken and our family is devastated.
She was into sport in a big way. She loved playing football and used to give up her weekends to work as an assistant coach for the under 7s.
She was a young woman in the prime of life, so precious and loving and such a big part of our lives.
We just adored her. Family meant everything to Meg and were all struggling with whats happened. It just doesnt feel real.
