Quarterback Joe Flacco threw a pair of early touchdown passes to give Baltimore a 14-0 lead going into the second quarter. The Steelers answered with two field goals and a touchdown pass to wideout Antonio Brown in the second frame, but the Ravens didn't allow any points after halftime. Kicker Justin Tucker had the second-half stage to himself, converting on four field-goal attempts to seal a road win at Heinz Field.

Roethlisberger’s arm has dictated the Steelers’ success for several seasons now, and his value only bloats with running back LeVeon Bell holding out and Pittsburgh’s secondary showing signs of weakness early this season. So the Ravens’ best bet to beat the Steelers is to keep Roethlisberger — and, in turn, receivers Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster — from lighting up the scoreboard. Since 2013, the Ravens are 4-0 against the Steelers when Roethlisberger averages less than 6.9 yards per pass attempt. Baltimore’s 0-5 over the same span when Roethlisberger tops that mark.

Baltimore started the game with a 14-0 run and scored 12 unanswered points in the second half to knock off the Steelers 26-14.

The Ravens look well on their way to a victory. Baltimore leads Pittsburgh 23-14 with two minutes and 22 seconds left.

This game started with explosive plays; it's become a defensive matchup. Thus far, in the second half, the Ravens have outscored the Steelers 6-0.

Really nice play by Levine. Fakes blitz inside and then drops back and breaks up a third-down pass from Roethlisberger.

Sunday night, the Ravens (2-1) will aim to shift the tide of the rivalry by earning a road win in Pittsburgh (1-1-1) on a primetime stage. And if they can accomplish these six goals, they’ll be in position to do it.

Antonio Brown crossed the middle, and Ben Roethlisberger threw the ball behind him. The Steelers signal-caller walked off the field visibly frustrated after the play.

“I think what becomes important in the game are those rivalries,” said Bleier, who had 5,159 yards from scrimmage and was part of four Super Bowl-winning teams over 11 seasons with the Steelers. “I think everybody gets their juices up for them. It’s a game everybody looks forward to because you hate the team. And that’s usually because they have beaten you in the past or they’re just as good as you — or they think they are better than you.”

The Steelers haven't looked in sync after halftime. Two of their three drives have been three and out.

• During a game in Oakland, even as the Raiders’ Ray Guy was booming punts, Steelers punter Bobby Walden was having trouble. “He’d come back and say, ‘They’re taking the air out of the ball! They’re taking the air out of the ball!’ So there was ‘Deflate-gate’ way back at that time.”

Ravens have forced Steelers to punt on all three of their drives in the third quarter. Baltimore is the only team not to allow a touchdown in the second half this year.

John Brown almost had another long reception for a touchdown. The Steelers escaped with a pass breakup.

Can't say Ravens aren't taking their shots tonight. Haden makes a really nice breakup of a Flacco pass to John Brown in end zone.

Switzer has been active in the offense with seven catches for 32 yards along with a carry for a yard.

The player seen by many Steelers fans as indispensable admitted the fracture to his hand was a “little more serious than I thought it would be”.

False start on Ronnie Stanley pushed Ravens out of field-goal range. Before that penalty, Justin Tucker could've attempted a 53-yarder if Baltimore had failed to convert on third-and-five.

In the end, there was derby day delight for the Ravens at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh as they ran out 26-14 winners, making it two wins on the bounce.

The Ravens haven't scored since their second drive. They've punted three times and fumbled in their last four drives.

His return sees the Steelers offensive line back to full strength just in time for Sunday nights NFL derby game with the Baltimore Ravens.

That's third game in a row Roethlisberger had led a TD drive in the final 3 minutes of the first half

On Pittsburgh Steelers Facebook page, one fan wrote about the news: “Lets go Steelers! Beat those rat birds,” referring to the Ravens.

In four games without CB Jimmy Smith, Antonio Brown has scored three touchdowns. In seven games with Smith, Brown has one touchdown. Smith comes off suspension tomorrow.

The Ravens almost went up 21-3, but Alex Collins' fumbled in the red zone. The Steelers put together a long drive and came away with a field goal. They'll attempt to score before halftime.

Ravens defense was on the field for six minutes in holding the Steelers to a field goal. Now, after a quick three-and-out by the offense, the defense has to go back out there again as the momentum has shifted.

Tight end Jesse James had a 23-yard reception in a big hole down the middle as Ravens safety Eric Weddle came downhill on a blitz.

Ravens were optimistic that Collins had solved his ball security issues last year. But now lost 2 fumbles this season. I'd expect to see more Buck Allen in RZ situations going forward.

Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith is serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Marlon Humphrey has emerged as a playmaker on the boundary. He has five pass breakups in three games.

Before the game, Pittsburgh ruled out Mike Hilton and Morgan Burnett, leaving Pittsburghs secondary without two key players for Sunday nights game.

On this possession, Humphrey, who was called for a holding on an earlier play, is traveling with Antonio Brown.

Edit Slot to 247Sports Home Slot to Pittsburgh Steelers Newsletter Newsletter The NFL is more focused on player safety now than ever. They penalize more plays than ever in an effort to keep their best and brightest healthy and on the field. Thats what makes this decision by the officials so perplexing. JuJu Smith-Schuster was knocked down hard by the Baltimore Ravens on this play, almost immediately after a penalty was called on James Conner for an illegal block. Yet there was no flag. Some are arguing that Smith-Schuster was acting a bit, but its hard to watch this video without thinking that the hit wasnt a bit too hard.

The Pittsburgh Steelers found a way to turn a negative into a positive against the Baltimore Ravens, even if it resulted in a halftime tie.

Smith-Schuster is, ironically, one of the hardest-hitting wide receivers in the NFL. He has been compared to Hines Ward for his prowess as a blocker. He was even suspended for a game last season for a hit he laid on Vontaze Burfict. But on this play, he was the one who was hit heavily. As a star wide receiver and one of the NFLs new marquee players, you would think that referees would look to protect him. They chose not to on this play, and that seems odd in light of the way that this game, and this season, have been called.

Steelers vs Ravens: 4 Takeaways from Pittsburghs tough loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers found a way to turn a negative into a positive against the Baltimore Ravens, even if it resulted in a halftime tie.

The Baltimore Ravens took a two-touchdown lead in the first quarter Sunday night at Heinz Field. The key play saw strong safety Tony Jefferson stripping Vance McDonald, setting the Steelers tight end up for a shot by linebacker C.J. Mosley.

But the Steelers answered with two touchdowns in a second quarter that involved a score-saving strip and fumble recovery, as well as a pair of payback hits that got the Heinz Field crowd into the game.

Steelers offense fizzles as Ravens win AFC North battle

1. Slow starts: The Steelers continued their string of sluggish starts, as opponents have outscored them, 42-7, in the first quarter.

The Ravens marched 75 yards on eight plays on the opening possession, taking a 7-0 lead on Joe Flacco’s 33-yard touchdown pass to John Brown.

Baltimores 14th red-zone trip ended up far differently and briefly swung momentum. The Ravens had the ball at the Pittsburgh 2 with a chance to move ahead three scores when Steelers free safety Sean Davis ripped the ball from Collins and Pittsburgh rookie strong safety Terrell Edmunds recovered.

The Steelers responded by going to McDonald twice in the first three plays, only to see him stripped by Jefferson at the 31. Jefferson returned the fumble recovery for a touchdown, but it was overturned after video review.

Flacco completed 28 of 42 passes for 363 yards and TD passes to John Brown and Alex Collins as the Ravens (3-1) ended a three-game losing streak to their AFC North rivals. Tucker accounted for all the scoring after halftime as Baltimore ended Pittsburghs long run of success on Sunday nights.

That didn’t stop the Ravens, who used a 19-yard pass to Chris Moore to set up a 3-yard touchdown from Flacco to Alex Collins for a 14-0 lead at 8:03 of the first quarter.

Pittsburgh put together a lengthy drive that resulted in a Chris Boswell field goal to get within 14-6. The Steelers tied it with 2:50 left in the first half on a pretty 26-yard back-shoulder throw by Roethlisberger to Brown in the end zone and the ensuing 2-point conversion grab by Conner.

2. Going for seconds: The Steelers seem to come alive in the second quarter, where they have outscored opponents 66-3.

“Going up against A.B., hes arguably the best in the game,” Humphrey said. “A guy like that, he doesnt really get tired. You watch him on film, hell run his route. Big Ben (Roethlisberger) starts scrambling, he just turns upfield, runs around, and hes just a guy that you can tell is in probably some of the best shape out of any receivers you play against. He doesnt seem to get tired. Hes on one side of the field, on the other side of the field, going in motion, going on a sweep, getting a screen, so he does so much. Hes a guy that you have to be aware of. …

The Steelers got a strong sign to start the second quarter with a 34-yard field goal by Chris Boswell. But Baltimore answered with a 71-yard pass to Brown, who beat strong safety Terrell Edmunds inside and gave the Ravens the ball at the Steelers’ 13.

But on a first-and-goal at the 2, free safety Sean Davis stripped Collins and Edmunds recovered at the 1.

The pivotal play lay was a third-and-4 at the 36, when Antonio Brown turned his first catch into a 15-yard gain. But James Conner was called for an illegal blind-side block, one that lifted Mosley off his feet and onto his backside.

Heinz Field in Pittsburgh will host Sunday nights game. Humphrey made the second start of his NFL career there last season, when the Steelers edged the Ravens 39-38 after trailing by 11 points entering the fourth quarter. The rivalry has historically produced nail-biters with 18 of the past 24 meetings decided by a touchdown or less.

So they ran third-and-4 again, and Ben Roethlisberger went back to Brown for a 9-yard pass and first down. That set up Boswell’s 39-yard field goal to make it 14-6 with 6:26 left in the half.

“The main thing I learned,” Humphrey said of his first taste of the Ravens-Steelers as a rookie last year, “is that its definitely a rivalry game. Its definitely two teams that really want to win, and, I feel like, two fan bases that really want to beat the other fan base.

McDonald, a viral video sensation for his stiff-arm on Tampa Bay safety Chris Conte on Monday night, ran over Jefferson on a 33-yard pass play to the Baltimore 32.

That set up Roethlisberger’s 26-yard touchdown pass to Brown, and a 2-point conversion pass to Conner tied it at 14-14 with 2:50 left in the half.

So, if you’re keeping score: Chris Brown scored a touchdown before Jefferson stripped McDonald, who took a shot from Mosley, who took a shot from Conner and McDonald ran over Jefferson to set up a touchdown pass to Antonio Brown and a 2-point conversion pass to Conner.

4. X-factor: If you thought Roethlisberger was ruffled by the Steelers selecting his potential successor in Mason Rudolph in the third round of the NFL Draft, imagine the Ravens’ quarterback room.

They took Lamar Jackson in the first round, signaling that the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner could replace Flacco.

Where Rudolph has been relegated to the sidelines as the third-string quarterback, the Ravens work Jackson into their offense in short-yardage situations.

Jackson came up with one of the biggest plays of the second half, converting on third-and-3 at the Baltimore 40. Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt appeared to stop Jackson short of the first-down marker but a video review upheld the call on the field.

Flacco found tight end Mark Andrews for 10 yards before cornerback Joe Haden made a big breakup of a deep pass to John Brown. But Flacco hit Tim White for a 14-yard gain, and that put the Ravens in range for a 47-yard Justin Tucker field goal and a 17-14 lead with 3:58 remaining in the third quarter.

5. Chance for a comeback?: Tucker connected on two more field goals the second one a 28-yarder to give the Ravens a 23-14 lead with 3:37 left.

Baltimore had a nine-point lead (38-29) last December at Heinz Field, only to see the Steelers rally for a last-minute 39-38 victory.

Roethlisberger reverted to forcing passes to Brown into coverage. A third-and-5 was knocked down by safety Adam Levine Sr., forcing a punt. The Ravens answered by covering 82 yards in 6:40, leaving the Steelers precious little time.

When Roethlisberger tried to squeeze another throw into triple coverage, Levine picked off his pass to set up another Tucker field goal to end any chance for a comeback.

Steelers vs Ravens: Keys to victory for Pittsburgh

And, a year after running the table in the AFC North, the Steelers remain winless in division play.
