Romelu Lukaku has returned to light training as he races to be fit for the Manchester derby at the Etihad on Sunday.
However, United have a fresh injury concern after Alexis Sanchez sustained a thigh strain in the stunning Champions League win over Juventus in Turin.
Lukaku picked up hamstring injury a week ago and missed the wins over Juve and Bournemouth. Uniteds £75million striker had already paid the price for scoring just four goals in 14 appearances this season after he was dropped to the bench by Jose Mourinho for the win over Everton.
But Mourinho wants Lukakus power against Manchester City in this weekends Etihad derby and will wait to see if the big Belgian can prove his fitness over the next 24 hours. He will give an update on the strikers progress on Friday lunchtime.
Mourinho admitted before the 2-1 win over Juve that he didnt know if Lukaku would recover in time, but its understood the 25-year-old was able to take part in a light workout at Carrington while his teammates were on Champions League duty.
Sanchez has led the line in Lukakus absence but may also be a doubt for the derby after suffering a dead leg in Italy.

And the forward was dropped for the 2-1 win against the Toffees in United’s last game at Old Trafford.
According to the Mail though, Mourinho wants Lukaku’s power against Manchester City on Sunday and will wait to see if he can prove his fitness over the next 24 hours.
Mourinho admitted before the trip to Turin on Wednesday that he was unsure if Lukaku would recover in time for City.
But the 25-year-old was able to take part in a light workout at Carrington while Manchester United played in Italy.
There are now injury concerns over Chile international Sanchez however, who stepped in for Lukaku against Juventus.
Sanchez was taken off with a dead leg in the 79th minute and looked to be in some discomfort afterwards.
Missing Sanchez and Lukaku for the City game could give Marcus Rashford the chance to play through the middle, his favoured position.
And they will be motivated by their last result against City at the Etihad, a 3-2 win secured after going 2-0 down.
City on the other hand will be out for revenge and will surely not allow another two goal lead to slip should the same thing happen again.
