Donald Trump: US president joins royals at state banquet

Thousands will line the streets of the capital and other cities in the UK demonstrating against the presidents state visit

The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, who refused to attend a state banquet on Monday evening for the president, said he will join crowds to stand in solidarity with those hes attacked in America, around the world and in our own country.

Trumps eldest son and his brother, Eric, run their fathers business empire while he is in the White House. Officially, Trump Jr is executive vice-president of the Trump Organization. It was Trump Jr who met a Russian lawyer in an infamous Trump Tower meeting in New York in 2016, after the Russian offered him election dirt on the Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Kushner also attended. Although accepting campaign help from foreign nationals is illegal, the special counsel Robert Mueller said after investigating that there was not enough evidence to prove meeting participants knew they were breaking the law. Trump Jr may be accompanied by his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host.

Queen WARNED over security concerns during state visit – Trump has high threat level

Organisers of the Together Against Trump protest have billed the day a carnival of resistance, with demonstrators gathering at Trafalgar Square from 11am to declare a Trump-free zone.

Referring to the Normandy landings, the Queen said: As we face the new challenges of the 21st century, the anniversary of D-day reminds us of all that our countries have achieved together. After the shared sacrifices of the second world war, Britain and the United States worked with other allies to build an assembly of international institutions, to ensure the horrors of conflict would never be repeated. While the world has changed, we are forever mindful of the original purpose of these structures: nations working together to safeguard a hard-won peace.

Tuesday will also see the giant, orange inflatable baby Trump blimp take to the skies again after its owners reached their fundraising target and permission was granted by the Greater London Authority.

Organisers plan to fly the 20ft blimp depicting a nappy-clad president clutching a mobile phone for two hours from 10am over Trafalgar Square. A 16ft talking robot of Trump sitting on a gold toilet was also expected to make an appearance.

Ivanka is Trumps oldest daughter and works in the White House (unpaid) as an adviser to the president. Trump has relied on her often for overseas diplomacy, including sitting in for him briefly at a G20 summit, and he said he had considered naming her to head the World Bank. She has visited Ethiopia and the Ivory Coast on behalf of the administration to promote womens rights. Before her fathers presidency, Trump ran her own fashion line.

The protesters will include Handmaids Against Trump – women who will be draped in red with white hoods in homage to Margaret Atwoods dystopian novel about a crackdown on reproductive rights.

But on a tour of Royal Collection artefacts in the palaces picture gallery, Trump was shown the pewter horse he gave the Queen on his last visit. Asked if he recognised it, he replied no, at which point Melania jumped in, saying: Yes, this is one of ours. Trump did better when he was shown a book of tartans opened at the yellow design of his Scottish Hebridean mothers MacLeod clan. Thats my tartan, he said immediately.

The 25-year-old is a graduate student at Georgetown Law in Washington DC. She travelled to the Cannes film festival earlier this month with her wealthy boyfriend, in a trip that has drawn scrutiny over its cost to taxpayers in terms of security for the presidential daughter.

The TUC general secretary, Frances OGrady, and Mark Serwotka, head of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS), will also speak to the rally.

The president then appeared to use some downtime at the US ambassadors residence to indulge another favourite pastime, venting his anger on Twitter on the topics of fake news, China, and the US broadcaster CNN. Just arrived in the United Kingdom. The only problem is that CNN is the primary source of news available from the US, he tweeted before condemning it as All negative & so much Fake News.

Six glasses were set for each guest, including a champagne glass for the toast when the Queen and Trump both referenced D-day and the shared sacrifices of both nations during the second world war. The Queen stressed a war legacy that had highlighted the importance of nations working together, but Trumps emphasis was on how Britain had stood alone.

Crowds will now stop at the north end of Whitehall with a clear view of the access to Downing Street, and proceed to Parliament Square by an alternative route. The Metropolitan police said a barrier plan will be in place across part of Whitehall just north of the Womens War Memorial.

Given both, there was no surprise when it emerged on Monday that there would be no formal one-to-one between the president and the prime minister. Instead, the two will meet alongside their aides on Tuesday. Asked whether the president had preferred to hold a one-to-one meeting, Mays spokesman said: Im sure the answer to that is no.

This is a multi-faceted security operation, and whilst the Met has a responsibility to ensure the right to peaceful protest, this needs to be balanced with the complex requirements of this policing plan.

Lara Trump is a campaign adviser to Donald Trumps re-election campaign and wife to Eric. A vocal defender of her father-in-law, she recently made headlines by saying the decision to let in large numbers of migrants fleeing war- and poverty-torn countries for Europe was one of the worst things that ever happened to Germany.

Around 250,000 anti-Trump activists gathered when he flew into the UK on 13 July last year for his first visit as US president.

Elsewhere across the UK, protests are also planned in Birmingham, Stoke, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Chester, Leicester, Oxford and Exeter.

Accompanied by Charles, and to a medley of American service tunes played by the band of the Grenadier Guards, Trump inspected the guard of honour by the Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards. The first couple later joined the Queen, Charles and Camilla, Prince Harry and other royals for a private lunch, also attended by Ivanka and Kushner.

Wherever Donald Trump visits the “threat level becomes high”, warned an international security analyst. Steve Park also claimed he hasn’t seen “too many bag searches going on” near Buckingham Palace during President Trump’s state visit, despite “plenty of bags”. Mr Park told Sky News: “People are quite close here, they haven’t stopped people from coming in. I haven’t seen too many bag searches going on, I’ve seen plenty of bags. That did surprise me.

“I thought that they might clamp down on bags much more seriously, much further away from Canada Gate so close to Buckingham Palace.”

The president tweeted: Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly nasty to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me.

He added: “Donald Trump has a very high threat level. So wherever he goes that threat level becomes high as well.

Trumps daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, a presidential adviser, watched from a palace balcony as the president and the first lady were greeted warmly by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on the palace lawn, with Trump holding on to Prince Charless hand for 10 seconds.

The US President described the Queen as a “great, great woman”, after recollecting a picture of her repairing a military truck engine in April 1945.

During his speech at the banquet, President Trump said: “In April 1945 newspapers featured a picture of the Queen Mother visiting the woman’s branch of the army, watching a young woman repair a military truck engine.
