Joan Collins flees terrifying fire in Belgravia flat

Dame Joan Collins had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a "terrifying" fire at her flat in London.

Fire crews were called to the actress's building in Belgravia on Saturday afternoon and got the blaze under control.

Dame Joan, 85, has now thanked firefighters and the NHS for their help, and also praised her "hero", her husband Percy Gibson, for tackling the fire.

“And thanks also to the @NHSEnglandLDN #nhs #emt #Ambulance crew who took care of our smoke inhalation and comforted me,” Joan continued. “And the wonderful @metpoliceuk who kept the street closed and everyone safe.”

She said on Twitter: "THANK U from the bottom of my to the marvelous @LondonFire who attended to the terrifying fire yesterday in our flat. #threealarmfire.

"My hero Percy had already doused the flames consuming the entire wall with handheld extinguisher (#donttakethisrisk). #gratitude #firefighters."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the publication two people were treated by the London Ambulance Service but did not require hospital treatment.

A second message said: "And thanks also to the @NHSEnglandLDN #nhs #emt #Ambulance crew who took care of our smoke inhalation and comforted me.

Oozing classic glamour, her dark hair was coiffed into sleek curls which framed her face, while she finished the look with smokey eye make-up and dark lipstick.

London Fire Brigade commissioner Dany Cotton responded to Dame Joan's post, tweeting: "Thank you for your kind message.

London Fire Brigade said: "Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Eaton Place in Belgravia.

A second saw her glancing coyly down the lens in a showstopping black structural gown with voluminous ‘80s-style shoulders and sleeves.

"Part of a flat on the first floor of the seven-storey building was damaged by the fire. Two people left the property before the brigade arrived.

Elsewhere, earlier this week, Joan cut the ribbon at the Shooting Star Children’s Hospices boutique in Cobham, Surrey.

"The brigade was called at 4.28pm and the fire was under control by 5.36pm. Two fire engines and a turn table ladder from Soho fire station attended the scene.

“I woke up just screaming in agony in the middle of the night and I was rushed to hospital,” she told Tatler.
