Gerard Pique admits Barcelona are still suffering from Liverpool loss

Barcelona were stunned by Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals, and the Spaniards are still gutted about the result

Gerard Pique has admitted Barcelona are still suffering psychologically from their dramatic Champions League exit to Liverpool.

As a result, were facing Spurs in the Champions League Final in eight days time, while Barcelona, despite winning La Liga and competing in the Copa del Rey Final this weekend – feel like their season has been a disappointment.

Barcelona still troubled by the nightmare of Liverpool as Gerard Pique makes Anfield admission

The Spanish giants were expected to ease into the final in Madrid on June 1 after easing into a 3-0 lead in the first leg.

When something like this happens, everything or almost everything has gone wrong, Pique told El Pais. I think that on a mental level, some people were affected by what happened in Rome because we had it very recently.

Pique: Three reasons Barca imploded v Liverpool – including Klopps insane press

However, Pique and Co squandered their advantage as Liverpool produced one of the greatest European comebacks to win 4-0 and progress to the final against Tottenham.

Pique reckons Barcas capitulation was threefold. Firstly, our opening goal set the tone, which was capitalised upon by our sublime high-press and confirmed by the power of Anfield.

It has been hard to get up emotionally because the days passed and you did not forget the defeat, it is a fall that will last over time, he told El Pais .

It was a very difficult situation. The team sees that it is not going, you see that they are squeezing and that it is very recent last year.

But we must not torture ourselves. Yes that is one of our great defeats. But thats the sport, where sometimes you have to bite the dust.

Liverpools semi-final win was not a snatch and grab job. We were arguably the better side at Camp Nou, but succumbed to the genius of Lionel Messi and didnt take our chances.

It was a nightmare and you have to assume it because it can happen again. But we must understand why it happened and help us in the future because we want to raise the Champions [League] again.
