Manchester United, Liverpool and Celtic players are featured on the 40-man shortlist for the 2018 Golden Boy award.
The award is handed to the best U21 player in Europe and Edouard has made the initial 40-man shortlist. That will soon be whittled down to 20, before the winner is announced in December.
The award, handed out by Italian newspaper Tuttosport to the most impressive young player in Europe over the previous calendar year, has been claimed by some of the best players in the world in previous seasons.
Cesc Fabregas, Sergio Aguero and Paul Pogba are just some prior Golden Boy winners, with last year’s victor, Kylian Mbappe, also on the 2018 shortlist.
The France and PSG forward is favourite to be named Golden Boy this time around, which would make him the first player ever to retain the award since its creation in 2003.
The 100-man longlist has been reduced to 40 names as we move ever closer to the award being handed out at the end of the year, and it features four players currently representing Premier League clubs.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Liverpool defender, is joined on the shortlist by Everton’s Tom Davies, Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot, and Phil Foden, the Manchester City midfielder.
There is also a Scottish Premiership representative, with Odsonne Edouard, who moved to Celtic permanently earlier this year, making the cut.
Other notable names include Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, Juventus forward Moise Kean, and Vinicius Junior, the Real Madrid forward.
The French phenom took the prize last year and is bidding to become the first player to win the gong twice
