The Boots store, on Market Hill, is to have the festive decorations after agreement was reached between the town council and the nationwide company.

Store owners had been concerned about drilling into the fabric of the building but after learning that the hooks being used to hang the decorations are not weight bearing gave their agreement.

A couple of years ago when we were asking businesses to put up lights Boots sent us through an 80-page document and we said if you do not want to agree we wont put them up but they have now consented.

We changed the lights that we put up with the old buildings and we now have little fairy lights that hang on hooks that are not weight bearing.

The Christmas lights will be officially switched on at 6.30pm on Friday by the Town Mayor of Sudbury, Sue Ayres, along with the winner of this years Christmas Card Competition.

St Peters Church bells will ring for a few minutes to signal that the lights are about to be switched on.

Father Christmas can be found in Holmes and Hills solicitors, North Street. He will be joined by two of his trusty real-life reindeer and sleigh parked outside from 5pm. The reindeer are also bringing a friend, a hand-tame owl.

During the evening there will also be carols played around the Christmas tree by the Salvation Army. The Sudbury Choral Society will be singing inside St Peters Church and new this year is a Buskers Corner with local musicians playing throughout the evening.

There will be a Christmas Craft Fair inside the church, with Christmassy gifts and treats. There will be a mulled wine and a mince pies stall.

And there will also be various stalls outside in North Street, Kings Street and Old Market Place, including sweet stalls, face painting, Christmas fair games, and Christmas crafts.

Attractions for this year include a mobile synthetic ice skating rink, eliminator and cage ride for adults, cups and saucer ride, and swing chairs for children and various other fairground games, the Phoenix Suffolk Community Marchers will be performing on East street and Elsa and Anna, from Frozen, will be roaming around to say hello to all the children.

Meanwhile, there are lots of catering stalls to keep hunger and thirst at bay. They include burgers, hot dogs, German sausages, macaroni cheese, curries, jacket potatoes, sweet and savory crepes, tea, coffee and hot chocolates.

If last years beard baubles were a festive hit for the fuzzy faced men in your life, this year facial hair fans can seriously up their beard decorating game.

Yep, your tree neednt be the only place adorned with twinkly lights, now you can give your face a festive glow thanks to these cute lights from Firebox.

The 18-bulb multi-coloured string of Christmas lights is available from the online retailer for just £10.99 and with each bulb flashing a different colour, they have to be on any beard owners must-list.

Not got room for a Christmas tree in your dismally small rental flat? Join the club! the website reads.

Dont bother with one of those dinky desk sized ones, just get these and make yourself the tree this year.

Somehow managing to tread the line between being sweetly seasonal yet broodingly masculine, the festive lights are the ultimate way to prove your love for a kitsch Christmas.

And theyre heat-less, so you dont have to worry about setting your beard ablaze, although the company do warn that you should avoid wearing the lights when your beard is wet.

Brilliant product, bought for my hairy son. Lit up his night shift! one impressed customer wrote.

Absolutly [sic] hysterical and was one of the main talking points during Christmas in our house. Lovley [sic] bright LEDs, good functions and apparently the clips were comfortable! another agreed.

Bought as a joke gift for Christmas for my daughters husband who has a very bushy beard. Thought the kids would love it. Another user wrote.

Last year, in a show of Scottish patriotism, men were able to get a tartan pattern dyed into their beards.
