Italian business tells talkSPORT the club will make an announcement about their popular manager soon
Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has revealed the option to extend Marcelo Bielsas contract expires at the end of May.
The Italian businessman has told talkSPORT the next few days will be decisive over whether the popular boss remains at Elland Road for another season.
Supporters are desperate for the experienced Argentine to stay after an impressive first season in charge.
The campaign ultimately ended in disappointment, as the Whites failed to clinch automatic promotion and were then knocked out of the play-offs, but Bielsas exciting brand of football has reinvigorated the club and there is a feeling their 15-year Premier League exile could soon be over.
Their third-place finish, six points adrift of an automatic spot, was the club’s best league position since they were relegated from the Premier League.
Bielsa has been in talks with the club about his future as manager over the last week, amid reports that clubs in Spain and Italy are interested in the former Argentina coach.
And Radrizzani has now revealed Leeds expect to make an announcement about the managers future soon.
Speaking to talkSPORT host Jim White, the United owner said: I can say we have a chance to keep him.
Well see. The next few days will be decisive and we will make an announcement. Well see in the next few days.
We have an option until the end of the month. We are talking to him and we have few things to clarify but after that we will make our decision public soon.
Radrizzani also insisted he has no plans to leave the club after their latest failure to win promotion back to the Premier League.
The Italian even hinted he is ready to invest big money into the squad when they return to the top flight, which he is confident will be soon.
I hope we will get there one day and Im here until that day because I really want to enjoy the moment with the fans.
Uniteds majority shareholder said he expected a decision over whether Bielsa would remain as head coach to be reached in the next few days with the clubs option to retain him due to expire at the end of the month.
Leeds intend to renew Bielsas contact for a second season and have been in talks with the Argentinian over their plans for next term for much of the past week.
The two sides reached a gentlemans agreement when Bielsa took the job last summer that he would be allowed to depart if he no longer felt happy to remain in the post.
Sources close to the 63-year-old, however, have told the YEP that Bielsa is determined to have a second go at winning promotion following the clubs defeat in the Championship play-offs.
The former Argentina coach made a huge impression in his first year in England, taking Leeds from a mid-table finish in 2018 to contention for automatic promotion.
Speaking to Talksport, Radrizzani said: We have a chance to keep him. Well see. The next few days will be decisive and well make an announcement. Well see in the next few days.
We have an option until the end of the month, were talking to him and we have a few things to clarify. Then, after, well make public our decision.
Radrizzani attempted to dismiss the suggestion that he might be tempted to sell the club after failing to steer Leeds back into the Premier League.
The Italian bought United in 2017 and had been in control of the club for the past two seasons but he relinquished a stake to the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers last summer in return for £11m.
Radrizzani said: Im here and I hope we get there one day and Im here until that day because I really want to enjoy it with the fans.
