The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a passer-by about smoke billowing from a window at a first floor apartment.
A police spokesman said there does not appear to have been anyone hurt and officers were on the scene managing traffic on Bridge Street and Bank Street supervising traffic.
Fire crews are today in attendance at a fire in Inverness above the famed Johnny Foxes bar and restaurant.
A cordon was set up on Bridge Street in the Highland capital causing chaos for morning commuters after a fire broke out on a first-floor apartment balcony.
Around 20 firefighters from four Inverness appliances were in attendance with flames visible from the walkway below Inverness Castle. An ambulance was also mobilised to the scene with one person treated on scene for smoke inhalation but did not require further treatment or transfer to hospital.
A cordon was set up by police on the B861 at Bridge Street stretching from the corner of Zizzis Restaurant to the entrance of Primark, with morning commuters experiencing delays and diversions as access through the B861 was denied.
