Dean Smith confirmed in Thursdays pre-match press conference that Keinan Davis will be sidelined for Saturdays meeting with Derby County, but should return in two or three weeks after undergoing rehabilitation to fix his hip problem.
Davis hasnt made an appearance for Aston Villa this season and had an operation on his hip in October. Hes expected to return later this month, with Smith revealing: Keinan is just starting his rehab now. He should be back on the training field in the next two or three weeks.
Do Aston Villas Ethan Ampadu links scupper James Collins hopes?
The 20-year-olds last game in a claret and blue shirt was against Bolton Wanderers on March 17. He came on late in the second-half, replacing Robert Snodgrass, but didnt feature again that season. Davis was out of the squad for the remainder of the previous campaign.
And after being absent for all of the current season, his long wait to return could soon be over. While expected back in training at the end of November, its unlikely Davis will play a competitive game for Villa until December due to a lack of match fitness.
Nevertheless, he could be a useful option for Smith in the second-half of the campaign. The England u20 international contributed six goals in 17 Championship starts last season while boasting having played in 18 consecutive league games between August and December.
