Newcastle fans have one big worry about reported target Dan James

Ander Herrera will make an announcement over “where hes going to continue” soon, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Thomas Tuchels side are set to lose Adrien Rabiot when his contract expires, with Barcelona having been strongly linked, and they reportedly see Herrera as an ideal replacement.

“Hes not like me, in that hes got absolutely top quality players, and he can buy top quality players, so its a little bit different,” said Warnock at the pre-match press conference. “He will be judged on the signings he makes, and how much money they spend. Because they have wasted a lot of money”

Speaking on Friday at a press conference ahead of Uniteds final game of the season, Solskjaer said of Herrera: “Ander might play [against Cardiff], I dont know yet.

After sacking Jose Mourinho in December, caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took United on an incredible undefeated run, before spluttering out around the time he was given the job and failing to qualify for the Champions League.

“We havent picked the team and hes probably going to announce himself later on where hes going to continue his football.”

“[For] the fans, its an easy situation – get rid of the manager. But youve then got to support him, and youve got to have a structure where you try and sign the best players available, to move the club forward.

The 29-year-old admitted he and the club were not on the same page in terms of contract negotiations back in April.

Herrera moved to Old Trafford from Athletic Club in 2014 and has won the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and the Europa League with the Manchester club.

He has become one of the leaders in the Red Devils squad and insisted last week that the clubs players needed to take responsibility for their poor season and the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

The Swansea City is the subject of substantial Premier League interest, but reports of United agreeing a purported £15million bid are wide of the mark.

It was reported on Friday that the Red Devils are close to signing talented Swansea City winger Daniel James for £15 millio ($19.5m), while they have also been linked with defenders including Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt.

The Manchester Evening News says United are yet to make contact with the representatives of Daniel James, sources close to the player say.

Speaking about potential moves when the window opens, Solskjaer continued: “There are players whose contracts have run out, some players will definitely come in.

Mike Phelan said: I am thrilled to be back as Assistant Manager. Manchester United has been a huge part of my life since I joined as a player in 1989 and I am delighted to be able to continue that relationship in this key role.

“Some young players will come in. We have worked since I came into the club, on recruitment. We have identified some players who we think will fit the squad, our squad, Lets hope we can get some over the line.”

“Since returning in December, I have enjoyed working with Ole, Michael, Kieran, Mark and Emilio and we are all focused on preparing for the new season.”

Reds fans will undoubtedly be hoping for a revival and see their side competing for major honours next season, but Solskjaer admitted a bid for the Premier League title would be “miraculous”.

We have a good group of coaching staff and we are already working on the challenges that lie ahead as we plan for the new season and the future beyond.”

His side are 29 points behind league leaders Manchester City going into their fixture against Cardiff City at Old Trafford, and have failed to win a trophy in 2018-19.

Manchester United is delighted to announce that Mike Phelan has been appointed Assistant Manager on a three-year contract.

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly blocked Mike Phelans idea of becoming technical director.

The likes of Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher have been linked while Phelan’s name as also been considered.

He will be judged on the signings he makes and the money they spend. Because they have wasted a lot of money. I was listening to David Moyes last week and have they improved any more than when David Moyes was there? Its an easy situation for the fans – get rid of the manager.

Phelan, who was yesterday confirmed as United’s assistant manager on a permanent basis, has been involved with discussions over transfers.

On Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Warnock said: “The plus for him is hes not like me. Hes got absolute top quality players. He can buy top quality players, so its a little bit different.

Solskjaer, Phelan and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward have all held meetings to discuss recruitment strategy for the upcoming transfer window.

And the Manchester Evening News claim Phelan was keen on the idea of being appointed technical director.

Bailly’s injury problems have also prevented him from cementing a place in the United team, with the defender set to join the likes of Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata in moving on at the end of the season.

However, Solskjaer blocked the plans because he wanted Phelan to continue assisting him as his No. 2.

The duo, along with Woodward, will now work together in bringing in the players the club desperately needs in the summer.

Solskjaer is thought to be keen to bring in up to five new players with defence, midfield and attacking options all being considered.

A focus on recruiting younger talent will be the priority instead of marquee signings like they have done with Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez in the past.

Manchester United have named their price for an Arsenal defensive target, while the Gunners are weighing up a move for a £25m Newcastle hotshot, according to Friday’s papers.

Speaking after Phelan penned a three-year deal yesterday, Solskjaer said: “Mike is a great person to have around and has been invaluable to me since we returned in December.”

“We have a good group of coaching staff and we are already working on the challenges that lie ahead of us as we plan for the new season and the future beyond.”

“Manchester United has been a huge part of my life since I joined as a player in 1989 and I am delighted to be able to continue that relationship in this key role.”
