Aston Villa’s frustrating start to the season continued last night as they drew 1-1 with Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Photo by Dan Mullan/Getty Images Last evening Aston Villa and their seemingly embattled manager, Steve Bruce, made the journey south to take on Lee Johnsons Bristol City.

Spoils shared. Hourihane bends an effort just wide of the post late on as we take a point on the road. Birkir Bjarnason's header in first-half stoppage time cancelled out Josh Brownhill's early opener. Onto Preston at Villa Park on Tuesday.#PartOfThePride pic.twitter.com/ujT3lGQKy4

Tuanzebe had an active night as he led Steve Bruces side with 78 total touches. In the 38th minute he made a great run down the right flank and hit a threatening cross into Niki Mäenpääs box. Unfortunately, not a minute later, he very nearly played an opponent in on Villas goal with a rather poor ball back to Nyland.

Steve Bruce’s men fell behind to a deflected effort from Josh Brownhill before a Birkir Bjarnason goal on the stroke of half-time ensured they went in level at the break.

However, Villa didn’t really kick-on in what was a scrappy second half and whilst they probably shaded it overall, they didn’t create enough chances.

The result leaves them in 11th position before the remainder of the Championship games are played this afternoon.

Clearly, that isn’t good enough for a club with their squad and resources and a section of supporters once again made their feelings clear regarding the manager last night at the game.

In addition to those numbers, the Australian also pinged a few nice long balls forward. Overall, on a day where he was done an injustice, he did himself a bit of justice with his play on the pitch last night.

It was more of the same on twitter, with many fans making it clear they feel an imminent change is needed if the club are to have any chance of securing a return to the Premier League this season.

The Friday night match under the lights did not live up to its theatre. It was a rather uneven affair with very few moments that stood out and individual performances that were largely just good enough.

Thanks for everything Mr.bruce, but nows the time to walk away, youve taken us as far as you can so please, while we've still got time to save our season, let our club go #avfc #PartOfThePride

Absolutely shocking, from the style of play, to the position of key players! Shambolic!!! Bruce has ran out of ideas! Time to go!! The massive oversight of CB in the summer is sackable on its own! #BruceOut

How much longer, we've wasted best part of 30 months where we have no playing style, no philosophy and already looking doubtful for promotion. Simply not good enough from the owners downwards

For the love of god sack him.. its completely obvious he wants a payoff.. players dont wanna play for him, substitutions are a complete mystery.. sign 2 wingers and have 3 of them sit on the bench.. im completely stumped but now its obvious.. he wants a payoff #Bruceout

Villas defensive stalwart certainly did not have his best showing. With six defensive clearances on the night, he too did enough of a job at Ashton Gate last night.

Remarkable how playing most of the team out of position leads to an abject performance every week….

Yours truly was admittedly in the midst of drafting a completely negative social media post as Villa were fairly shocking in the first half.
