Belfast City Hospital: Family devastated at death of vibrant soul

The funeral of a teenage girl found dead outside Belfast City Hospital in the early hours of Sunday will take place on Saturday, March 30.

“Dearly loved daughter of Michael and Tracey, much loved sister of Charles, Alistair and Anna,” a family notice read.

Tara will be missed immeasurably not only by us, but her entire family, especially her brothers and sister Charles, Alistair and Anna, who will never forget the love they had for her and the love she had for them.

“Tara was adored and cherished by her whole family, she will be missed greatly and remembered forever.”

The notice said all friends and family are welcome at the house on Friday between 2pm and 7pm, but added that the house and committal service will be strictly private on Saturday for family only.

In a statement released to the media on Monday, Taras parents Michael and Tracey said that she was a “vibrant soul with a zest for life that could bring joy to all around her”.

“Tara was a kind, funny, charismatic, bright young girl with her whole life ahead of her and we cant believe that we now have to say goodbye to her,” the statement read.

Tara, who worked at a call centre in Newry, was described by heartbroken family and friends as an amazing, funny and kind girl who had her whole life ahead of her.

“Tara will be missed immeasurably not only by us, but her entire family, especially her brothers and sister Charles, Alistair and Anna, who will never forget the love they had for her and the love she had for them.”

Police believe Tara Wright had been injured in a single-car collision involving a silver Mercedes on the outskirts of Belfast in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The notice described Tara as the dearly loved daughter of Michael and Tracey, and much loved sister of Charles, Alistair and Anna.

However, the 17-year-olds body was found eight miles away in a grey MG car in the grounds of Belfast City Hospital.

The 17-year-old, from the Dromore area of Co Down, was found dead outside Belfast City Hospital shortly before 3am on Sunday.

The four men – aged 20, 21, 28 and 30 – were arrested on Sunday in connection with the incident and subsequently bailed pending further police inquiries.

In a statement, Taras family described her as a “kind, funny, charismatic bright young girl with her whole life ahead of her”.

Her mother and father added: “As parents we are devastated by the heartbreaking passing of our beautiful daughter Tara.

“Tara will be remembered as she lived, a fun-loving, energetic and vibrant soul with a zest for life that could bring joy to all around her.

“Tara will be missed immeasurably not only by us, but her entire family, especially her brothers and sister Charles, Alistair and Anna, who will never forget the love they had for her and the love she had for them.”

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) inspector Nigel Henry said: “Our investigation is at an early stage, however we do believe that Tara was injured during the one-vehicle road traffic collision on the Ballygowan Road.

“We also believe that a grey-coloured MG vehicle conveyed Tara to the area of Belfast City Hospital, therefore we are also appealing to anyone who witnessed this vehicle between the Ballygowan Road and the hospital to contact police.”

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and have asked for dashcam footage.
