Twinbrook pensioner George McCaul dies following car crash

Elderly man dies after being hit by car

George McCaul from the Twinbrook area of Belfast was involved in the road collision on October 21, on the Upper Lisburn Road in Dunmurry.

The crash happened shortly before 3.50pm, with it reported the man and the four-year-old child were hit by a car.

Inspector Eastwood said: “Mr McCaul was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries, but he sadly passed away in hospital during the early hours of yesterday morning.

“I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 947 21/10/18.

A 37-year-old man was earlier arrested before being released on police bail pending further investigaion.

George McCaul and a young child in a push car were struck on the Upper Lisburn Road on 21st October.

The 81-year-old, who was from the Twinbrook area of Belfast, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Inspector Eastwood said: "The collision occurred shortly before 3:50pm on Sunday 21st October. It was reported that the man and a four-year-old child were struck by a car in the area. The child was in a push chair during the incident.

He added: "I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 947 21/10/18.
